Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok culture, ca. 15th century CE. A stunning pottery pitcher of fascinating form boasting a lustrous glaze of deep forest green atop a light celadon ground. Sitting upon a discoid foot, the elegant vessel features a double-tiered body with a bulbous lower section, a slender neck, and a bowl-shaped mouth, capped by a convex lid with a pointed handle. A lengthy conical spout rises from the lower tier of the vessel, while a graceful handle in the form of a lizard loops opposite it. The adorable zoomorphic handle presents 4 legs, a tapered tail, a high central crest along its back, and a petite head with annular eyes and an incised mouth. Gorgeous horizontal bands and vegetal designs adorn the lid and body of the pitcher. Size: 7.5" in diameter x 10.5" H (19 cm x 26.7 cm)
