Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Si Satchanalai), ca. 15th century CE. A beautiful pottery bottle decorated with an ornate black-on-white floral and aquatic motif. The bottle features a charming piriform shape, a concaved neck, and a deeply flared lip - giving it a well-balanced presentation. Across its body are four finely painted contiguous registers repeated twice over in a horizontal fashion and separated by thinly painted double-border lines. The bottom most register is an illustration of a fish making its way through elegantly stylized leaves and vines. Above this is a looser floral composition, and the neck is adorned with a repeated color-blocked leaf. The surface has a slight gray hue accented by a nice craquelure. Size: 5.25" W x 8.5" H (13.3 cm x 21.6 cm)
