Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A beautiful and simple pottery chalice, painted in large red and cream color bands. Ban Chiang is considered by UNESCO to be the most important prehistoric settlement so far found in Southeast Asia, and it had a nearly three-thousand year history of pottery production. The red pigment of this cup comes from heavy iron content in the pigment. Size: 4.75" W x 5.8" H (12.1 cm x 14.7 cm)
