Description:

**Previously Listed At $150

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Khmer culture, ca. 12th century CE. This is a beautiful large pot with an inverted piriform body, no foot, and four small curved handles on a shoulder below a slightly raised rim. The piece is glazed, with much of the original glaze remaining; the color is dark brown, with some blue highlghts. Very little is known scientifically about Khmer ceramics; only one kiln, Buriram, has been excavated. Many vessels were found broken at the entrance to a temple there. However, many Angkorian bas-reliefs show people using vessels like these to eat and drink, so they were probably made for everyday use and then later placed in burials or kept in temples. Size: 8.75" W x 8.25" H (22.2 cm x 21 cm).
