Description:

Native American, Southwest, New Mexico, Tesuque Pueblo people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-built terracotta sculpture of a seated "Rain Deity" with a pot on his lap and a snake wrapped around his neck. In the late 19th century, the Tesuque Pueblo people began to sculpt small pottery figurines, such as this for sale under the pretense they were rain deities to encourage tourist sales. These "gods" have since evolved into artisanal and imaginative figurines often brightly painted. Size: 4" L x 3" W x 7.75" H (10.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 19.7 cm)
