Native American, Western United States, Nevada, Paiute or Washoe culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful beaded degikup gift basket made from plant fibers over coiled cane, the exterior completely beaded from base to rim in geometric motifs. Degikup style baskets are characterized by their flat base, rounded form, with a relatively small mouth. The basket is made by a centuries old coiling technique using native plants such as willow and bracken, and the seed beads are applied over the top using a netted stitch to secure the strands in place. Size: 5" Diameter x 3.75" H (12.7 cm x 9.5 cm)
