Description:

Pre-Columbian, Teotihuacan, ca. 100 BCE to 550 CE. A bowl like this, with thick feet and straight sides, is diagnostic of the Valley of Mexico city of Teotihuacan; if it is found elsewhere, Teotihuacan influence is assumed. The surface of this particular tripod is carved in low relief and depicts a thrice-repeated motif of something that may be a village or may be headdresses with a geometric design. This is a very interesting piece that probably would have been used in a burial context. Size: 9" W x 6-1/2" H (23 cm x 16-1/2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Olan collection, California, by family descent, acquired 1960 to 1970.
