Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A hand-built cylinder vessel with flaring walls that rest atop a trio of hollow feet. The burnished surface was once the canvas for painted motifs in earthen toned pigments, however only faint remains of the motifs remain and are indiscernible. Tripod vessels are a classic form from Teotihuacan, "The Place of the Gods" as the city was known by the Aztecs (its true name is lost to history). Artisans in Teotihuacan had an enormous influence, both through widespread trade during their own time and the stylistic legacy they left to their descendant cultures. Size: 6.75" Diameter x 7.75" H (17.1 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Marc Amiguet Schmitt estate, Evansville, Indiana, USA, acquired May 21, 2013; ex-Arte Xibalba, Osprey, Florida, USA; ex-Bruce Sikora estate, Lee, Massachusetts, USA
