Description:

Pre-Columbian, central Mexico, northern Veracruz, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A fantastic standing ceramic figure of a priest, with applied decorative ceramic ornaments and clothing as well as black bitumen eyeballs. He is facing forward, her feet planted firmly so that he stands well on her own, his arms to his sides, palms open and facing outward. He wears anklets an almost ankh-like symbol, bifurcated wrist ornaments. His headdress is extensive, flaring outward at the sides in jaguar form with twin canine teeth extending downward. He wears large earspools with looped necklace down to his bare chest. His expression is serious, with large eyes, colored with bitumen (as are the eyes of the jaguar) and a slightly open mouth. Size: 10.5" W x 32" H (26.7 cm x 81.3 cm)
