Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-carved wooden funerary mask of sizable form depicting a stylized anthropomorphic visage painted in white and red pigments. The petite mouth is overshadowed by the prominent, sharply-crested nose while a pair of diamond-shaped eyes rest below a tall forehead. Perforations along the brow perhaps accommodated additional ornamentation, and the perforation below the chin was perhaps used to attach the mask to a larger mummy bundle. Size: 3.25" L x 10.375" W x 21.5" H (8.3 cm x 26.4 cm x 54.6 cm); 22.5" H (57.2 cm) on included custom stand.
