Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima or Jalisco, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A tall and fierce terracotta warrior figure, armed with a large club and a conch shell shield, his characteristically elongated head adorned with an intricately knotted headdress, his visage presenting a stern countenance, facial features including coffee bean eyes, boldly projecting nose, and elongated ears perforated for the suspension of ornaments. Standing with legs spread apart, feet firmly planted on the ground, he is ready for action. Clearly an elite warrior, as he is decorated with an elaborate bird pendant pectoral in addition to the knotted belt, aforementioned headdress and intimidating weaponry. Size: 16"H x 9" at widest point. Provenance: Ex-private Laguna Niguel, CA collection acquired from major gallery in the 1980's.
