Europe, Germany, ca. 19th century CE. A large, beautiful stoneware Bellarmine stein with a body that bulges at the waist, tapering on either side to a round foot and a narrow mouth with a slight lip. A sturdy handle flows from shoulder to just below the rim. The body is decorated with a blue-on cream motif of a single large flower within a thick border. Deeply incised lines within the ceramic surface give the piece a homemade, hand-crafted look. Size: 7.6" W x 12.7" H (19.3 cm x 32.3 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
