Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful intaglio of an ovoid form made from warm vermilion-hued glass. The face of the intaglio features a stunningly veristic depiction of Venus (Greek Aphrodite), the goddess of love and passion, with sensitive feminine facial features and a regal crown atop her neatly arranged coiffure. The flat edges of the intaglio fit neatly within the bezel of a 12K rose gold ring that has a slender shank and openwork, V-shaped shoulders. Size (intaglio): 0.6" L x 0.375" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm); (ring): 0.75" W x 0.825" H (1.9 cm x 2.1 cm); quality of rose gold: 12K; total weight: 3 grams; US ring size 7.25.
