Description:

Ancient Near East, Syria, Syrian Provincial, ca. 2500 to 2200 BCE. A cylindrical stamp seal bead carved from dark gray hardstone with an incised program bearing anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures. The design showcases a single human figure with one raised arm in front of a pair of abstract, long-necked mythical creatures with sinuous limbs and beaked mouths. The surrounding spaces are filled with minimalist linear motifs. Size: 0.625" W x 1.3" H (1.6 cm x 3.3 cm); 2.1" H (5.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
