Description:

Ancient Near East, Syria, Provincial type, Archaic Period, ca. 3rd millennium BCE. A hand-carved stone cylinder seal of dark gray hues displaying two rows of stocky quadrupeds. The top row features a register of running bulls with legs astride beneath their slender bodies, and the bottom row shows similar creatures standing in static poses. Each animal features hooved legs and slender tails. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.65" W x 1.5" H (1.7 cm x 3.8 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
