Description:

Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A pair of gorgeous cast white bronze temple rings of simple loop form with lightly bubble-textured, diamond-shaped projections along approximately half of its ring. Only one side of each earring has texture, giving a clue to which side would have been worn facing outward. White bronze is an alloy of copper, tin, and zinc that looks at first glance like silver. The color white/silver may have been symbolic to the Vikings, as young women and especially pregnant women are often buried with white jewelry. These would have been treasured items, worn hanging near the temples from a headband to display the wealth of their owner. A jeweler could easily make these into earrings if you wanted to wear them. Size of each: 1.6" W x 2" H (4.1 cm x 5.1 cm)
