Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Greater Nicoya, ca. 300 to 800 CE. A pair of nice ceramic items: first a fierce, polychrome standing figure of a woman with huge eyes and armor-like bosses on her shoulders and knees. She wears a helmet-like headdress and has a face with wide, bulging eyes and ears pierced to look like she wears spooled earrings. The Nicoya made many figures of women, including warriors, which some researchers have taken as indicative of women's power in ancient Costa Rican society. Second, a double pot with a looped handle between them and two frog-like faces, one on each bowl. Size of figure: 3.4" W x 6.8" H (8.6 cm x 17.3 cm)
