Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya Region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. One of the largest Costa Rican bird celts that I have ever seen, skillfully carved from a beautiful piece of jadeite presenting sublime blue-green hues with white inclusions. The form depicts a perched bird with wonderful string-cut details: sizeable ring-shaped eyes, a long, pointed beak, crest feathers atop its head, feathered wings, and touching feet - above the celt-shaped blade below. Laterally drilled behind the neck for attachment or suspension with one additional drilled perforation beneath the feet. Size: 8.75" H (22.2 cm); 9.75" H (24.8 cm) on included custom stand.
