Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, Ur III Dynasty, ca. 2112 to 2004 BCE. A thick, hand-built clay tablet of a rectangular form that contains 27 lines of impressed cuneiform text. Cuneiform is one of humanity's oldest structured writing systems and revolutionized our ability to keep records and notate events of all levels of importance. A partial translation of this administrative tablet provides a delivery record of a large quantity of animal carcasses - namely sheep, cows, oxen, goats, and lambs - that was received by an individual named Lu-su-a from a transporter named Nasha who worked for an individual named Aheeni.   • Condition: Repaired from two large pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to body and peripheries, with softening to some cuneiform characters, and light encrustations. Many cuneiform characters are still legible.
