Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolia (modern day Turkey), Chalcolithic period, ca. 3500 to 3000 BCE. A rare example of a hand-built pottery idol of a broad, cylindrical form with a stylized figure on the top half. The figure presents with hunched, angular shoulders, bent arms that meet with stylized hands in front of the tapered torso, and a prominent face with a pinched nose between petite discoid eyes. A slight ridge along the lower body suggests the figure is wearing a lengthy skirt, perhaps of religious or ceremonial connotations. Size: 4" W x 7.9" H (10.2 cm x 20.1 cm)
