Description:

Ancient Near East, Sumeria or Babylon, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A mold-made plaque depicting a nude woman standing above a large phallus in a scene that seems to the modern eye to be obviously erotic. The woman faces forward, with her breasts and slender, muscular limbs carefully depicted, as is her elaborate, braided coiffure. Plaques like this one seem to have been votive, and "erotic" plaques, often combining sexual scenes with scenes of beer drinking in the Sumerian style (through a long straw) are well known from the period. Size: 3.4" W x 4.2" H (8.6 cm x 10.7 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.
