Description:

Ancient Near East, Sumeria or Babylon, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A mold-made plaque with an abstract design that may be a representation of a deity. It shows an archway capped by bull horns, with a tall pike or staff in its center; behind the archway, a scene of elegant columns beckons the eye. Pottery plaques are one of the lasting art forms from ancient Mesopotamia, and they give us a glimpse into religious practices and what people valued; they were often kept in the home, perhaps on a personal altar. Size: 2.5" W x 4" H (6.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
