Aquamarine is a translucent and icy blue variety of beryl mineral that naturally occurs in the hexagonal crystal shapes displayed here. The black schorl is a form of tourmaline, another semi-precious stone that is opaque with a lustrous surface. Historically aquamarine has been a cherished stone thought to increase the happiness of married couples through the calming colors and reflective properties. Aquamarine (from the Latin aqua marinus, meaning "water of the sea") is a mineral mainly found in granite quarries and used for jewelry.
