Description:

North Africa, Morocco, early Cretaceous, ca. 99 to 93.5 million years ago. A fossilized cervical vertebrae bone from the prehistoric Spinosaurus, the largest known carnivorous dinosaur- reaching 46 feet (14 meters) in length! The cervical or neck vertebrae bone is well preserved showing off anatomical details. Spinosaurus were semi-aquatic piscivores that adapted to the swampy environment of Cretaceous North Africa - cruising along watery environments, hunting fish, and ambushing other dinosaurs that came to the shore to drink- similar tactics to modern day crocodilians. The name Spinosaurus ("spine lizard") comes from the long spines growing from its back vertebrae which formed a sail, a flat protruding fin like structure, also known as a neural spine sail. Size: 5" L x 4" W x 5.25" H (12.7 cm x 10.2 cm x 13.3 cm); 9" H (22.9 cm) on included custom stand.
