Spain, dated 1821 CE. This is a framed Spanish proclamation signed by Ferdinand VII (r. 1813-1833), the first Spanish king of the restored House of Bourbon. It is a royal decree granting knighthood to Don Pedro Gonzalez Fuentes. He is being granted membership in the "Real Orden de Isabel la Católica" (Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic) at the level of "Cruz" (Cross). Size: frame dimensions measure 21" x 36"; proclamation itself measures 26-1/2 x 18-3/4.
This proclamation was issued in San Lorenzo on the 30th of November, 1821, although the paper itself may have been printed/written later. This proclamation was probably issued for services to the Spanish Crown during the Mexican War of Independence.
The proclamation was issued on heavy paper. It is bordered by detailed realistic artwork that appears to have been hand-drawn or hand-colored depicting various scenes of the Spanish Empire. The writing is done in easily readable cursive with very little shorthand. The proclamation is currently in a matte gold frame. Provenance: Ex-private Martine collection, Centennial, CO, acquired by family descent in 2002; previously acquired by relatives in Mexico in 1950's and brought into United States in early 1970's. - Condition: The printing on the proclamation is in good condition and there is very little wear. The proclamation seems to have at one time been folded into four, and as a result there is some wear along fold lines and minor tearing at the edges. The frame is also in good condition.
