Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to 4th century CE. A petite pitcher comprised of transparent, free-blown glass with an inverted piriform body leading to a tubular neck, a flared mouth with an everted and folded rim, and an angular trail handle joining rim to shoulder, all upon a slightly concave base presenting a faint pontil scar with an applied ring around the foot. In addition to areas of translucency, the glass presents hints of rainbow iridescence that glisten in the light. Size: 4.125" H (10.5 cm)

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired from Goldberg Auctions, Los Angeles, California, USA in 1968

  • Condition: Some weathering film and deposits as shown. A bit of wax on the base for securing in former display. Slight remains of pontil mark suggesting that the piece was free blown. Nice areas of translucency and rainbow iridescence.
