Near East, Byzantine Empire, ca. 5th century CE. A Byzantine Empire copper follis coin set in a modern high quality silver pendant setting as a wearable necklace. The coin's obverse depicts Emperor Anastasius I Dicors (491-518) diademed, draped and facing right, inscription: "D N ANASTASIVS P P AVG" (Our Lord Anastasius, Perpetual Emperor). Reverse with a large M between two stars, cross above, officina letter beneath, "CON" (Constantinopolis). A contemporary jeweler created a 96% sterling silver pendant setting for the coin which is strung on a modern cord. Size of pendant: 3" L x 2.125" W (7.6 cm x 5.4 cm); coin: 1.2" Diameter (3 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 96%; weight: 88.7 grams
