Description:

Ancient Europe, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1500 to 1200 BCE. A cast-bronze dagger, the blade of elongated petaloid form with shallow midrib and sharpened edges, the tip with sloped point, and a squat hand guard. The narrow handle bears raised fins on both sides with inward-curved edges for securing tactile panels, and a perforation on the tip was for attaching a pommel made commonly of stone or bone. Rich brown patina envelops the entire weapon in age-commensurate luster and color. Size: 14.375" L x 1.7" W (36.5 cm x 4.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Royal Athena Galleries, New York City, New York, USA; ex-private German collection, acquired from Hermann Historica, Munich, Germany, 2010
