Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 18th century CE. A cast-bronze three-bar crucifix with the crucified Christ in low relief set in a modern high quality 90% silver and diamond inlaid setting as a wearable pendant. The cross may have once been a three-bar style, the most symbolic type in eastern Orthodox Christianity, and surface around Christ was once enameled in colorful hues - enameling bronze icons such as this was a popular in Russia from the 13th century onward. The antique bronze has a lovely green patina that contrasts with the modern silver setting inlaid with dozens of faceted diamonds around the form fitting bezel lip and the pendant bail. The pendant is strung on a modern cord as a wearable necklace. Size: 2.4" L x 1.15" W (6.1 cm x 2.9 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 90%; weight: 11.5 grams
