Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican-Lambayeque culture, ca. 900 to 1250 CE. A hand-built ring-form vessel with a relatively flat base, a ring-shaped body with an open central gap, a pair of musician figures standing on the front, and a tapered spout projecting from the verso, all decorated with red and black pigment atop an orange-yellow ground. A wide, concave strap handle arches between the bottom of the spout and the back of the larger musician figure. The larger musician wears a tiered cap and holds a mallet against the drumhead with his left hand, and a shorter musician standing next to him holds a flute to his mouth with both hands. A whistle tone hole on the handle end opposite the spout does not create any audible note when air is blown into the spout. Size: 6.7" L x 6.2" W x 6.8" H (17 cm x 15.7 cm x 17.3 cm)
