Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 1000 to 1350 CE. A tall blackware stirrup jar with a foot adorned in geometric motifs and an upper body adorned with several figures. Included is Naylamp, the traditional hero founder of the Lambayeque and god of the underworld. Naylamp's head and headdress are displayed beneath the conical spout while an abstract zoomorphic head projects from each of his shoulders, and 4 additional figures are draped around the front half. An abstract, headless creature atop the handle has large feet and a curled tail. Size: 5.75" W x 8.25" H (14.6 cm x 21 cm)
