Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A delightful ram's head and front half of the body, posed seated, with his front legs tucked under his body. His naturalistic head faces forward, with his large horns curved at the sides of his head - in fact, they are so impressive that their tips stick out past his neck in front! Stylized triangular rows of incised fur drape down under his neck and onto his upper chest, giving him a dramatic appearance. A perforation on the center of the back gives an idea of how this was used - attached to a vase or piece of furniture to be decorative. Size: 1.25" W x 1.5" H (3.2 cm x 3.8 cm); 2" H (5.1 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: The back half of the figure was lost in ancient times based on the patina formed along the break line. What remains has excellent detail and form with a pretty pale turquoise patina.
