Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wonderful mold-formed terracotta head of Isis with beautiful traces of thick white, black, and pink pigment. Her elegant visage is composed of almond-shaped eyes surrounded by thin black rings, a slender nose, thin lips above a rounded chin, slender cheeks, a smooth brow, and a pair of intricate earrings. Her black-painted coiffure is incised with a wavy appearance, and her head is topped with a large headdress featuring a central incised diamond on top and narrow rectangular panels on the front. Isis, an ancient Egyptian goddess, struck a chord with the polytheistic worshippers of the Roman Empire, and her worship spread throughout it during the early centuries of the Imperial Period. Size: 2.5" W x 2.875" H (6.4 cm x 7.3 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
