Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. early to mid-2nd century CE. A wonderful bronze fibula of the sawfish variety - a type distinguished by a set of integrally molded "teeth" to each side of the bow, as well as enameling decorations over the full length of the body. Size: 1" W x 1.7" H (2.5 cm x 4.3 cm); 3.2" H (8.1 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been published in "Ancient brooches and other artefacts : a fourth selection of brooches together with some other antiquities from the author's collection" by Richard Harrarr (Oxford: Oxbow, 1989), number 30.
