Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A silver faun figure, finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, nude with delineated male genitalia as well as defined pectoral and abdominal muscles, goat-like features including long, curled horns and furry legs, and characteristic pointy ears, bushy mustache, and full beard. He stands in contrapposto with his left leg advanced, holds an attribute in his left hand (perhaps a wineskin of shepherd's crook), while turning his head slightly toward the right, peering out from deep-set eyes beneath hairy brows, which flank a pronounced nose, and with pursed full lips, this countenance crowned by a wavy coiffure. A charming mythological figure from ancient Rome! Precious metal quality: 87.4-87.7% silver. Weight: 62.3 grams. Size: 2.75" H (7 cm); 3.125" H (7.9 cm) on included custom stand.
