Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A beautiful redware flagon with a round, apple-shaped body, standing on a wide, disc foot. The shoulder is decorated with molded linear forms that are reminiscent of the decoration on Roman architecture. A perfectly formed, cylindrical neck rises from the center of the vessel, with a thick, round rim. An arched double-strap handle is attached below the rim and above the shoulder. Made for domestic use. Size: 6.6" W x 6.75" H (16.8 cm x 17.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired from Goldberg Auctions, Los Angeles, California, USA in 1968
