Description:

Roman North Africa, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A red engobe painted ceramic bowl with a rounded base and rolled rim; this is accompanied by a round terra sigilata lid that sits nicely within the rim. A round knob handle is in the center of the lid. The lid is likely not original to the piece but as these were made for domestic use it is easy to imagine someone putting a different lid onto their bowl after losing the one that came with it. Size: 6.95" W x 4.35" H (17.7 cm x 11 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Sammlung T.Z., Munich, Germany, collected before 1992
