Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful mold-formed oil lamp with a flat base and a planta pedis reading "LM-RES," rounded walls, a pierced tab handle, a recessed tondo with a small fill hole, and a semicircular wick spout flanked by spiraling volutes. Within the tondo is a relief image of a dog or wolf with shaggy hair, exposed ribs, and a conical head with a hanging tongue. The canine stands beneath the overhanging leaves of a palm frond to escape the heat of the sun. Size: 2.95" W x 1.75" H (7.5 cm x 4.4 cm).
