Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A lovely mold-formed pottery oil lamp with a ringed base, sloping walls, a planar shoulder decorated with raised stippling, a pierced tab handle, a large fill hole within the recessed tondo, and a round wick spout. The tondo depicts a pair of elegant roosters in relief, their plumed tails held straight out from their plump bodies, and beaked heads presented with a defined comb and wattle. Covered in pale orange slip, this is a fine example from the ancient Roman Empire! Size: 3.3" W x 1.875" H (8.4 cm x 4.8 cm).
