Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A mold formed pottery lamp that has a recessed tondo with an erotic scene. The flat base has two incised rings and a planta pedis "NV." An egg and dart pattern surrounds the rounded walls and incised ring of the tondo. Two scrolling volutes frame the protruding spout wick. The recessed tondo displays a scene of a man on top of a woman in bed. Erotic scenes were a common motif that were displayed on domestic objects. This is a sensual piece that displays Roman utilitarian craftsmanship. Size: 3" L x 3.5" W x .875" H (7.6 cm x 8.9 cm x 2.2 cm)
