Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed terracotta oil lamp with an orgiastic scene on the tondo. The vessel sits on a flattened smooth base with two concentric rings. The walls widen to a rounded rim with some incised patterning and ring around a shallow tondo. The erotic scene appears to include four people above the fill hole. A neck channel leads to a narrow rounded wick spout. This is a nice example of Roman craftsmanship unabashedly portraying explicit imagery! Size: 3.5"" W x .875"" H (8.9 cm x 2.2 cm)
