Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th period CE. A skillfully carved marble bust depicting the head of an imperial male figure presenting classicizing features and a wavy coiffure with each curly lock skillfully delineated in a manner characteristic of the Julio-Claudian period and framing his serious visage which was clearly influenced by a taste for naturalism, yet also demonstrates the Classical World's embrace of idealized portraiture. The marble itself has developed rich honey hues over time. A wonderful Roman marble bust of an elite male. Size: 2.875" W x 4.375" H (7.3 cm x 11.1 cm); 6.6" H (16.8 cm) on included custom stand.
