Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful mold-formed pottery oil lamp of a circular form with a tab-shaped handle on the verso. The impressed base features a planta pedis (maker's mark) in the form of three wheat stalks sprouting from the ground, and the shoulder is ringed with raised laurel leaves. The recessed tondo bears the regal head of an emperor - though precisely whom is difficult to discern - with a neatly arranged coiffure donning his right-facing visage. A superb example of fine Roman artistry! Size: 3.625" W x 2.1" H (9.2 cm x 5.3 cm).
