Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A petite mold-formed terracotta oil lamp with a raised circular ring on the base, a discoid body, a fill hole within a recessed tondo, and a wick spout centered between a pair of lateral protrusions. Two tight volute spirals flank the sides of the neck channel, and around the tondo are a pair of stylized dolphins and a flower on the verso. Covered in attractive russet-hued slip, this is a fine and functional example of Roman artistry! Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.5" W x 0.9" H (6.4 cm x 2.3 cm).
