Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful necklace comprised of dozens of ancient beads made from shell, coral, glass, carnelian, and greenstone. The beads are tubular, barrel, lozenge, and spherical in shape and present hues of vermillon orange, creamy white, and pink coral. At the center are two beads that are very different from the rest; a blue glass bead with nodules protruding outward and a polished green stone. All beads are ancient, but strung in modern times with a gold-plated lobster and loop clasp to be perfectly wearable! Size of necklace: 19.5" L (49.5 cm); green pendant bead: .6" W (1.5 cm)

Provenance: private Dallas, Texas, USA collection, acquired in 1992; ex-Civilization Gallery collection, acquired under the supervision of Dr. Kilinsky, head of SMU archeology department
