Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A delicate jar of apple-shaped form that is free-blown from translucent, turquoise-hued glass. Surrounding the lower body are several gently pinched areas that create a tactile motif on the surface. The collared rim has an everted lip to facilitate pouring the vessel's contents, and beneath the body is a rough pontil scar that exemplifies the hands-on craftsmanship. Size: 3.3" W x 3.375" H (8.4 cm x 8.6 cm)

Exhibited in "Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection" at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and "Glass of the Ancient World" at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.
