Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A finely sculpted marble head of a bearded male - perhaps the god Jupiter (Zeus). The mature god has an oval face with well-delineated features including thick-lidded, deep-set, almond-shaped eyes, an aquiline nose, furrows on his forehead, naturalistic ears, nicely modeled cheekbones, a mouth nearly obscured by a thick mustache and beard (though a full lower lip is revealed), and a rich mass of long, curly hair. His expertly modeled coiffure is adorned by a leafy wreath/diadem. A special piece with a majestic, powerful appearance. Size: 2.625" H (6.7 cm); 4.625" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
