Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A finely sculpted limestone bust of a bearded male - perhaps the god Jupiter (Zeus). The mature god has an oval face with well-delineated features including thick-lidded, deep-set, almond-shaped eyes, an aquiline nose, a furrow on his forehead, nicely modeled cheekbones, a mouth nearly obscured by a thick mustache and beard (though a full lower lip is revealed), and a rich mass of curled, wavy locks framing his visage. His expertly modeled coiffure is adorned by a leafy wreath/diadem. A magnificent rendering, replete with the finest artistry and detail, depicting Jupiter/Zeus as a noble and imposing presence who possesses all the majesty of an omnipotent ruler of the universe. Size: 3" H (7.6 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
