Roman, Imperial period, ca. 222 CE. A fine Julia Mamaea AR denarius set in a beautiful 20th to 21st-century pendant made of silver and gold and strung on a modern strand as a wearable necklace. Julia Mamaea was the mother of Roman emperor Alexander Severus and remained one of his closest advisors throughout his reign. IVLIA MAMAEA AVG, draped bust to right / IVNO CONSERVATRIX, Juno standing facing, head to left, holding patera and scepter; peacock at feet to left. RIC IV 343 (Alexander); BMCRE 43-8 (Alexander); RSC 35. Size of pendant: 1.5" L x 1" W (3.8 cm x 2.5 cm); of strand: 22.5" L (57.2 cm); metal quality: coin: 67-74% silver, pendant: silver area: 92% silver, gold area: 46% gold, 18% silver; weight of pendant: 27.4 grams

  • Condition: Ancient coin set in a 20th to 21st-century pendant and strung on a modern chain to be wearable. Coin is fine with some rubbing to inscription and detail. Edges of coin are not visible. Some light nicks to pendant, but otherwise all are intact, excellent, and wearable.
