Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A remarkable brass situla or bucket featuring a ring-form foot, a rounded base, and thin, straight walls that rise to a gently flared rim surmounted by a swing handle. The parabolic bail handle turns upward at each terminal and is connected via 2 raised loops on the rim. A beautiful example of quality bronze-smithing in the Roman era! Size (with handle down): 9.8" L x 8.4" W x 6.8" H (24.9 cm x 21.3 cm x 17.3 cm)
